Safety Reliability Test Engineer

At Bossa Nova we create service robots for the global retail industry. Our robots’ mission is to make large scale stores run efficiently by automating the collection and analysis of on-shelf inventory data. Position: Safety Reliability Test Engineer

Location- Mountain View, CA


  • Verify and validate system & sub-system function and performance.
  • Define standards for test requirements, documentation, and equipment for the testing group (covering hardware, firmware, and system-level test)
  • Develop and maintain subsystem test validation plans and procedures.
  • Create test procedures and generate test reports per industry best practice to document system test results.
  • Support system development by advising design engineers on Design For Test (DFT) for systems.
  • Operate within a cross functional team, understanding the needs and requirements of internal stakeholders as well as external customers.
  • Review engineering design for regulatory compliance issues. Support compliance and certification efforts through rigorous testing.
  • Participate in reliability test planning. Help execute the tests and write reports. Create a culture of continuous improvement and inspire best practices by writing guidelines, providing feedback, solutions, applying innovative metrics and measurements, planning DOEs, and benchmarking the state of the art in comparable industries, technologies and companies.
  • Work with our engineering team to develop and manage the DFMEA. Compile and analyze performance reports and process control statistics.
  • Support the compliance team by planning, testing and report writing to ensure that Bossa Nova Robots are safe, compliant, operationally and cost effective
  • Work with certifying agencies and organizations to ensure new and existing designs comply with local, regional and national regulations


  • Bachelor's degree in science or engineering or equivalent
  • 2+ years of engineering experience, preferably in the automation, medical or industrial equipment industry, with exposure to safety, reliability and good engineering practices in product development
  • Basic knowledge of Safety & EMC standards, EU directives and OSHA regulations including machinery standards and functional safety
  • Familiarity with ETSI, MIL, ISTA standards for reliability
  • Self starter
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Willingness to travel and work offsite
  • Ability to multitask in a high energy environment
  • Experience with complete hardware development cycle
  • Experience in Risk Assessment and FMEA processes
  • Willingness to learn and grow, meeting deadlines
