Senior UX Researcher

At Bossa Nova we create service robots for the global retail industry. Our robots’ mission is to make large scale stores run efficiently by automating the collection and analysis of on-shelf inventory data. We drive autonomously through aisles, navigating safely among customers and store associates. If we were a self- driving car we’d be operating at level 5 autonomy.

Position: Sr. UX Researcher

Location:  Pittsburgh, PA

Overview

As a Senior Researcher, you'll help inform the solutions to some of the juiciest unsolved problems in technology. How should autonomous, intelligent robots interact with people? How can a robot do its job among people, without getting in their way? Your well-honed research skills will help craft the most public robot experience the world has ever seen. Success in this role will ensure adoption of robots in the world's biggest retail stores and create a seamless, collaborative work experience for associates on the shop floor. You'll have the opportunity to dig in to all aspects of the user experience, including industrial design, human robot interactions and data visualization.

Responsibilities

 

  • Understand the needs of different user groups through academic literature review, competitive analysis, market research and other secondary sources.
  • Determine how and when to use a variety of user-centered methods such as field visits, surveys, interviews, contextual inquiry, concept evaluations and multivariate tests.
  • Define and carry out research plans. Integrate quantitative and diagnostic data generated by the robot with other research results.
  • Synthesize your findings and share with stakeholders across the company.
  • Work together with the Product team to create tangible design solutions and inform development.
  • Thrive in a small, distributed team environment with a lot of independence.

Basic Qualifications

  • MA/MS degree in HCI, UX, Psychology, Human Factors, Anthropology or other related fields (or equivalent experience)
  • 5+ years of work experience, preferably with robotics (HRI) or other advanced interfaces
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, especially among geographically distributed teams.
  • Ability to collaborate with and mentor junior researchers.
